            Complete edition of a series of etchings originally executed between 1656 and 1657 depicting commoners, soldiers, and exotic figures, with great influence in the West as iconographic models. Folio, (495 x 350mm). Frontispiece with printer's device, one text plate, 85 plates on 35 sheets, 68 from the Figurine series (4 plates on 15 leaves, 3 on 2 leaves, two on one), 13 full-page, and the last 4 folding (frontispiece and text plate browned, water stain to the lower margin of the plates sometimes touching the engraving, marginal foxing). 19th century early leather binding, gilt title and decoration (wear and minor chipping to boards). Frontespizio, 30 pagine di testo, con 71 tavole a piena pagina finemente incise in rame, leggera gora d'acqua alle prime carte e fioriture sparse, legtaura in cartoncino posteriore, lievi difetti. Suite di 72 tavole in rame di "bel disegno e buona esecuzione", che raffigurano i vasi esistenti nel museo Pio-Clementino e Chiaromonti al Vaticano. L'opera venne dedicata dall'autore.             DESCRIPTION: After Carlo Antonini (Italian, 1740-1821). Four hand-colored engravings of architectural rosettes from throughout historic Italian buildings. Each depicts the profile and face view of the rosette. Each in black painted and gilt wooden frame with thick cream-colored matboard. Label verso "Antonino Raimo Galleries". Includes: 1) Rosone Antico preso da frammenti al Palatino. 2) Rosone preso da frammenti Antichi nelle Cave dell' Emo Cardinal Casali 3) Rosone Antico da frammenti in Campidoglio 4) Rosone Antico nel Tempio della Concordia. Antonini was a designer, copperplate engraver and architect who flourished during the last quarter of the 18th century through the first quarter of the 19th century. He worked in Rome and in Modena, producing two great collections of copperplate engravings of ornaments. The first work was Manuale di vari Ornamenti, tratti dall Fabbriche e Frammenti Antichi, per uso e commodo de’ pittori, scultori, architetti, scarpellini, stuccatori, &. published in Rome in four parts in 1781-1790. The first two parts of this work were devoted to rosettes--100 plates--which appeared on exterior and interior Italian Renaissance houses and palaces. MEASUREMENTS: 8-1/4" x 6-1/4". Overall with frame: 17" x 15". CONDITION: Minor undulation, toning, and abrasions to surface of paper consistent with age. Minor wear to frame including rubbing to corners.
