    Pencil signed, numbered and dated 1949. Titled Italian-American Girl Holding Bird Ed/25, paper measures approx. 15 in HÊx 12 in W. Illustrator, painter, sculptor, printer.Ê Born in Massarosa, Italy on June 23, 1897. Angelo immigrated to Antioch, CA with his family in 1905. In 1914 he settled in San Francisco where he developed into a versatile artist. From 1926 he illustrated and decorated 45 books for Grabhorn Press for their Book Club of California. Due to hard times caused by the Depression, in 1933 he moved to Bronxville, NY where he continued this line of work for the Limited Editions Club as well as writing and illustrating about 17 children's books for Viking Press.Ê Angelo returned to San Francisco in 1974, produced more books for the Club at his studio atop Nob Hill, and in 1976 was honored by Mayor George Moscone with a city resolution.Ê Ê
