    ANDRIEU, Jean-Bertrand, (French, 1761-1822): Set of 10 bronze medals cased in book form case. Removable top tray contains two "Arivee du Roi a Pari" Battle de Maringo, Passage du G. S. Bernard, Josephine, Marie Louise, Napoleon, and a different Napoleon. Lower tray has two gilt decorated bust of Napoleon and busts of Napoleon and Marie Louis, each 5 1/2" dia. All medals appear to struck on one side only. Book missing cover measures 14" x 11" x 2". Condition: book in need of conservation, missing cover, top rack medals loose, missing and cracked glass. Lower medals with wear to gilt paint. Sold with all faults, please see photos.

    A cased set of ten medallions of Napoleon by Jean-Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1823) Medailles De Napoleon, ten copper wash uniface cliché medals of different size, each signed, the reverse sealed with paper, including Siege de la Bastille 85mm diameter, Bonaparte Premier Consul de la Republique Fran, 69mm diameter and six others to lift out tray, having two larger medals beneath depicting a profile image of Napoleon and Marie Louise, Duchess of Palma, 140mm diameter, presented in a brown tooled leather book box, the inner cover with blue velvet cushion, the front piece decorated with gilt Napoleon's Coat of Arms and emblems, marbled page effect sides, box measuring 13 7/8 x 11 ¼in. (35.3 x 28.6cm.).

    JEAN-BERTRAND ANDRIEU (1761-1822), ATTRIBUE - Napoléon et Marie-Louise, ca.1810 Napoléon et Marie-Louise, ca.181Médaillon en bronze à patine brune représentant l'effigie de Napoléon Bonaparte et Marie-Louise d'Autriche dans un encdarement d'époque Empire. Dimensions totales : 28 x 28 cm - Médaillon : d. 16 cm Sculpteur et graveur de timbres mais surtout considéré comme l'un des plus importants médailleurs français de son époque, Jean-Bertrand Andrieu est l'élève d'André Lavau à Bordeaux et s'installe à Paris en 1786. Il réalise en 1791 une médaille commémorative de la prise de la Bastille et est le principal graveur de médaille du régime napoléonien. On lui doit les gravures sur métal des premiers billets de banque de la Banque de France, comme le 1 000 francs Germinal et il grave d'après un dessin de Louis Lafitte une médaille commémorative pour le baptême du roi de Rome célébré en 1811. Sous la Restauration, il continuera son activité pour le roi Louis XVIII.

Jahrhundert. Das Relief in Metall gegossen, einmal Napoleon zeigend, einmal das Doppelportrait Napoleon und Marie-Louise. Zur Beschreibung nicht geöffnet. Andrieu war ein französischer Medailleur aus Bordeaux, welcher die Medailleurskunst aus der Periode Ludwig XIV wieder aufleben ließ. Vernon and by the Judge to his nephew Col. Geo. Corbin Washington (US Congressman, 1827-33 and 1835-37) and by him to his son Lewis William Washington (hostage of John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry and later prosecution witness in Brown's trial)', 4" diam., 3/4" high. Minor stains to seal, interior craquelure, surface wear to base.
