    Oscar Anderson, Gloucester Harbor Scene O/C (Sw/Am. 1873-1953), unframed impressionist work, signed and dated lower right "Oscar Anderson". 16" high, 24" wide. Cracquelure and soiling, small paint chip lower right, light pressure lines at interior stretcher edge. A painter and photographer, Oscar Anderson was born in Gotland, Sweden and emigrated to the United States where he settled in Connecticut and studied art with Charles Noel Flagg in Hartford. In 1908, Anderson moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts and was a leader in the Cape Ann Art Colony, working in his home studio at Highlands Court and running a gallery on Rocky Neck Avenue. He was the first vice president of the Gloucester Society of Artists in 1922 when it formed, and then served for many years as president. He was also a founding member of the North Shore Arts Association and the Boston Art Club and was founder of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. During the 1930s, he did numerous WPA murals.

    Oscar Anderson (Massachusetts, Ohio, 1873 - 1953) oil on canvas painting of a clipper ship with two American Flags. With original label verso. Unsigned. Does have original label verso attributing the painting to Anderson. Titled verso near stretcher. Size: 40 x 35.5 inches.In 1908, Anderson moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts and was a leader in the Cape Ann Art Colony, working in his home studio at Highlands Court and running a gallery on Rocky Neck Avenue. He was the first vice president of the Gloucester Society of Artists in 1922 when it formed, and then served for many years as president. He was also a founding member of the North Shore Arts Association and the Boston Art Club and was founder of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. During the 1930s, he did numerous WPA murals.

    DESCRIPTION: Oscar F. Anderson (American, 1920-2010). 1944. Two watercolors on white wove paper. Each signed, dated, and inscribed "China," lower right or lower left. Both depict a landscape scene in China during World War II. Anderson was born in Pennsylvania and after graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1942, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in India and Asia. MEASUREMENTS: 9" x 12" and 12" x 16". CONDITION: Each with some minor creasing. The smaller watercolor with a 1/4" loss on the right edge and a 3/8" tear at the left edge.
