(62.2 x 91.4 cm) Very good condition This print is part of a unique series by Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh. The artists were invited by the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies in 2009 to participate in a special residency at Columbia University’s print shop to pursue the duo’s artistic collaborations in printmaking. The duo’s residency taught the student’s in the MFA printmaking program an important lesson in partner dynamics during the fabrication of a professional art project. Both artists produced a series of unique monoprints that developed a new printmaking technique in direct ink transfer using the process of silkscreen. The overall team, both artists, student assistants and master printer, discovered a process, which brought together drawing and printmaking. The new process utilized Soft Akua color and Caran d'Ache pigments (drawing inks and crayons) mixed with solvents to form a newfound saturated medium that was ‘dropped’ through silkscreen to the paper base sheets. Each work is unique, thus the description as ‘monoprints’. An exhibition of this series was shown at the Galeria Filomena Soares, in Lisbon - Portugal, in September 2010. Ghada Amer (b. 1963) and Reza Farkhondeh Egyptian artist Ghada Amer and Iranian born Reza Farkhondeh have been expanding their individual practices by collaborating with each other. Since 2001, they have produced numerous mixed-media works rife with eroticism, feminist undertones and wit. Although they work together, they remain in their respective studios, passing their pieces back-and-forth each adding their own marks to them. This practice results in compositions that are complex, multilayered, and uniquely fanciful.
