"Alien" by John Alvin, 1994 Unsigned Offset Lithograph. Paper size is 41 x 27 inches, with an image size of 39 x 25 inches. The Offset Lithograph is from an edition size of 5000 and is not framed. The condition was rated A-: Near Mint, very light signs of handling. Additional details: One sheet poster for the 1979 sci-fi classic film "Alien," starring Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. This particular poster was created by Kilian Enterprises to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the film's release. It is part of a limited edition of 5,000 individually numbered copies located on the lower border of the poster. The poster remains unfolded, preserving its original condition.

John Alvin (American, 1948-2008) "Willow" concept graphite drawing on artists' tissue with inscriptions to left margin 12 1/4 x 19 1/2 inches Concept graphite drawing on artists' tissue for Ron Howard's fantasy film John painted the three final posters for the release of this film. 1988. One of the early stages in the design and conception of a movie poster is using graphite drawings of various concepts. These often start small and then, as with this one, a larger version would be done to precede a color comp. What is remarkable about this drawing, is that John has notated his thoughts as to how he intended to paint the next step. It is a rare insight into his creative thinking process.

John Alvin (American, 1948-2008) "Quest for Camelot" full color comprehensive painting signed "John Alvin" (lower right) 15 x 20 inches Full color comprehensive painting for the Warner Bros animated movie. John created the final one sheet used for the film's release. 1998. Color comps, or comprehensives are created as a type of "dress rehearsal" for the finished poster art. This color comp is very close to the final one sheet. It is painted in acrylic paint, both brush and airbrush, and detailed with Prismacolor pencils. This was a technique John used very often in his work.

John Alvin (American, 1948-2008) "Lorelei"; Full-Color Original mixed media painting signed "John Alvin" (upper left) 14 1/4 x 28 inches (sight) 26 1/2 x 40 1/4 inches (frame) A certificate of authenticity accompanies this lot. This original painting was created by John Alvin for a special benefit performance for the Oscar Reiss-Davis Child Study Center at the Shubert Theater in Los Angeles, circa 1974-1975. John designed this poster in the style of a 1920's illustration. He was experimenting with a technique of making his complete drawing, adding a collage of Cockerell paper and making a sepia toned print. He then painted on this surface using colored inks with brushes and airbrush. The title is hand lettered as part of the art. This is one of John's earliest published poster works, so it has significant historical value to his legacy as the premier poster artist of the 20th century.
