The large carving of a Sicilian Donkey with jute mane and painted details, possibly carved from cottonwood, is signed D A in red pigment on the underside for Santa Fe artist David Alvarez (1953-2010). David Alvarez is widely known for his carved depictions of animals, several examples of which are in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum. Measures 34 x 48 x 10.5 inches.
