        Rookwood Pottery Vase by Howard Altman (American) dated 1902. Signed, numbered, and dated on base. A lovely Rookwood ceramic vase of a classic form decorated with a grape/berry vine motif on the exterior walls - embellished with lustrous golden yellow, seafoam green, and chocolate brown hues on the exterior with a chocolate brown and buttercup yellow interior. The vessel is marked on the base with the Rookwood logo (a back-to-back "R" and "P" surrounded by flames), "II" to indicate the date 1902, identifying shape number "916 D", and a "HA" (Howard Altman) artist's mark. An attractive Rookwood pottery vessel decorated with a wonderful nature-inspired motif. Size: 4.7" W x 6.25" H (11.9 cm x 15.9 cm) The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded in 1880 by the artist Maria Longworth-Nichols who created a world-renowned ceramic studio in Cincinnati, Ohio that attracted many reputable artists and ceramicists. Thomas Altman worked at Rookwood Pottery from 1899 until 1904. Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F.
