Watercolor on paper Austria/Hungary, 1856 Joseph Altenkopf (1818-c.1860) - Hungarian-Austrian landscape painter One watercolor signed and dated in pencil 'Altenkopf 1856' lower left Sheet dimensions: c. 26.5 x 37 cm Framed: 54 x 64 cm Good condition Two watercolors depicting a church in an atmosperic wintry village landscape and a Dutch harbor view with windmill Condition: The watercolors are firmly mounted to a mat and framed behind glass. They are in good condition with only slight signs of wear consistent with its age. The sheet sized images measure c. 26.5 x 37 cm, frame dimensions are 54 x 64 cm. Joseph Altenkopf (1818-c.1860) Altenkopf was born in Vienna in 1818. He studied from 1834 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, followed by study trips through Switzerland, Italy and Austria. In 1855 he was appointed Director of the princely Eszterházy collection of paintings, but was relieved of his duties due to the misappropriation of objects from the collection. His artistic ability was especially characterized by imitating different styles of painting. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
