      Signed and dated in the lower right. A June 1896 view of Palmer Park in Detroit, Michigan. C. Harry Allis was born in Dayton, Ohio and later moved to Detroit. He studied at the Detroit Museum of Art School, where he later became an instructor in drawing and painting. He also found employment as an art critic for the Detroit Free Press. He painted many Michigan landscapes between 1891 and 1902, before he left to paint abroad in France and Holland. Later in life he settled in Southern California where he continued his career as an artist. Having a Barbizon style giltwood and gesso frame, H 50", W 63". Very large format. Under glass. Partial handwritten label adhered to the verso: "____ Woodland Palmer Park June 17 1896 Harry A___"(Allis).
