Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland,artist Gordon Allen spent much of his time bird hunting on the Eastern Shore. Combined with fishing trips to the Adirondacks, the experiences created an appreciation of the outdoors that emerged in Allen's oil paintings and etchings. Though he did attend art school for a short period of time, he was primarily self-taught, and was particularly inspired by Rembrandt's techniques. Gordon Allen paintings show his knowledge of marine life and landscapes in both the United States and Canada. 

Artist Gordon Allen dedicated himself to conserving wildlife, and sold a number of paintings to raise funds for multiple conservation groups.
