Using found photographs and imagery that echoes back to a pre-revolutionary Iran, Alikhanzadeh’s work evokes the poignancy produced by the passing of time. Alikhanzadeh’s warm colour and tone render her subjects familiar yet she dichotomises this warmth with stark contemporary touches, thus her subjects remain somewhat distant and incomplete. Her use of perspective emphases the connection between the viewer and the viewed, whilst denying nostalgic familiarity the opportunity to mask the divide between the two. Digital print, oil and mirror glass fragments on three wooden boards in the artist’s wooden frame Tehran, Iran, 2007 Samira Alikhanzadeh (b. 1967) – Iranian artist Signed in Farsi lower left Total dimensions: 82 x 164 cm Very good condition Provenance: Private Collection, Europe Triptych Self-Portrait Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 7,000 Euro In her works Samira Alikhanzadeh uses photographs of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, which are mostly portraits of women. In this case it is the artist herself, in half figure with a bouquet in her hands. The artist enlarges the original photographs and mounts them as digital prints on board or Perspex. She then applied paint and at times mirror fragments to them, so the viewer received a direct appearance in the artwork. The photographs originate from the time after the banning of the veil in Iran and women who did not have any feeling for the self-portrayal now stand in the focus of Alikhanzadeh’s art. Condition: The triptych is in very good condition. The frame has minimal traces of use. The overall dimensions are 82 x 164 cm. Samira Alikhanzadeh (b. 1967) Samira Alikhanzadeh was taught painting from early on by Aydin Aghdashloo. She graduated in painting from Azad University in Tehran in 1998. Next to her works with old photographs from the 1940s and 1950s, depicting mainly Iranian women that she mounts on board or Perspex with paint and applied mirror fragments, she also uses carpets in more recent works.
