It was translated by the poet Elizabeth Carter (1717–1806), a friend of Samuel Johnson, and publisher Edward Cave.

Two 12mo volumes, second edition; translated from Italian to French by Du Perron de Castera, bound in uniform contemporary sponge-decorated calf with flat, gilt-tooled spines, 6 1/2 x 3 3/4 in. (2) Algarotti's Newtonianism for Ladies was an 18th century bestseller. It was also one of the main channels through which Newtonian ideas reached the general public in continental Europe. The book offered a description of some of Newton's experiments on the nature of light and colors in the form of a genteel dialogue between a chevalier and a marchioness." Occhietto, frontespizio stampato in rosso e nero con fregio xilografico, in barbe, piccolo alone di umidità al margine superiore delle prime carte, legatura coeva in cartonato § Jean Baptiste Thiers. Histoire des perruques. Avignone, Louis Chambeau, 1779. In 12°. Testatine e finalini xilografici e tipografici, 3 piccole xilografie a p. 109 raffiguranti copricapi, in barbe, legatura coeva in cartonato decorato, tassello cartaceo al dorso con autore e titolo manoscritti, abrasioni, dorso lacunoso. Unito nel lotto "Tropotipo cioè a dire norma dei costumi. Dialogo". 1632. I opera: Seconda edizione. Lo snello volumetto introduce alla teoria della gravitazione universale il gentil sesso, che secondo l'autore ama piuttosto di sentire, che di sapere.II opera: Ottimo esemplare della curiosa opera del Thiers sulla storia, le tipologie e gli usi della parrucca. L'opera è di sicuro interesse per la storia del costume, approfondendo nel dettaglio ogni aspetto relativo all'accessorio irrinunciabile per eccellenza della Francia settecentesca.
