In-18, demi-veau aubergine, dos à nerfs orné de fleurons et de roulettes dorées, pièce de titre en long de maroquin fauve, date dorée en pied, couvertures imprimées conservées, non rogné (Reliure de Franz). 106 p., [1] f. Édition originale. La pièce, écrite en collaboration avec Paul Meurice, a été créée au Théâtre-Historique le 15 décembre 1847, Rouvière tenant le rôle-titre. Le critique du Siècle fut dithyrambique : « une solennité dramatique d'une immense portée. Pendant que les hommes d'État laissent se desserrer les liens de l'entente cordiale qui unissait la monarchie de 1830 à l'antique royauté anglaise, des hommes de lettres, bien autrement intelligents, bien autrement avancés, ont eu l'heureuse idée de resserrer le lien moral qui unit aujourd'hui l'Angleterre à la France. [Ils] ont révélé au public français le génie original et saisissant de Shakespeare ; ils ont déchiré […] le voile que l'ignorance et les préjugés avaient jeté sur cette grande et noble figure. Grâce à eux, nous pouvons juger Shakespeare, non plus à travers le jugement irréfléchi d'un critique célèbre, ou les mutilations de ses traducteurs, mais sous son vrai jour, à la scène, avec ses cris de passion, les élans de son âme, avec toute sa puissance dramatique enfin. » La pièce fut représentée tout au long du siècle, et la Comédie-Française, qui l'inscrivit à son répertoire en 1886 la joua jusqu'en 1916.
