Angiolo Alebardi - "La colonna di San Marco a Venezia" (St. Mark's Column in Venice.)

      Est: €2,000 - €2,500

Angiolo Alebardi, born in Seriate on June 13, 1883, to Venanzio, a musician and conductor on the sailing ships and steamships that plied the seas of the world, died prematurely at only 33. His mother, Barbara Belometti, ran the Cervetta Hotel in Seriate, now the site of the local nursing home. From a young age, Alebardi was passionate about painting and undertook studies at the Scuola dell'Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, then attended the Scuola dell'Accademia di Nudo in Rome a few years later. His artistic talent shone at the 7th Venice Biennale, where he successfully exhibited his work "Portrait of a Little Girl," receiving wide acclaim. This event was the beginning of a deep connection with Venice, becoming one of the favorite places and subjects of his works, along with the majestic Bergamo mountains of Vilmaggiore. At the 9th Venice Biennale, he returned with "Portrait of a Young Lady" [1]. During the years of World War II, Alebardi moved with his family to the picturesque Val di Scalve. His dedication to art led him to explore various themes and environments, enriching his artistic production. The artist lived to an advanced age, dying in Bergamo in 1969. He rests in the family tomb in Seriate cemetery. The municipality of Seriate, on the centenary of his birth, dedicated a small square in front of the town hall to him in recognition of his artistic contribution and importance to the community.
