ALFONSO ALBACETE CARREIRA (Antequera, Malaga, 1950). Untitled, 1983. Pastel and crayon on paper. With damage to the frame and loss of the glass. Signed and dated in the lower right corner.

      Est: €1,000 - €1,200

ALFONSO ALBACETE CARREIRA (Antequera, Malaga, 1950). Untitled, 1983. Pastel and crayon on paper. With damage to the frame and loss of the glass. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Provenance: private collection conceived since the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 65 x 50 cm; 87 x 68 cm (frame). Following the artist's words in Ars Magazine, his works are defined as "prolongations of previous themes, almost autobiographical; existential, I would say". In this particular work, the artist shows us a female nude inscribed in an opening. The figure is reflected in the lower area, thus creating an extension where intimacy and the universality of the space in which the human being dwells come together. Alfonso Albacete trained with Juan Bonafé in Murcia, where he spent his early years. He later continued his pictorial studies at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Valencia, and finally studied architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Madrid, where he finished his studies in 1977. During his time in Madrid he became acquainted at first hand with the work of the great Spanish artists, both classical and contemporary. Three years later, in 1980, he was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture in the category of Plastic Arts. A painter and engraver, he developed a language based on an expressive chromatism, close to that of American abstraction and even pop art, placing himself on the border between figuration and abstraction. From the beginning of the 1990s, his plastic art began to take on an iconography that has been a constant in his production ever since: the human figure, the still life and the landscape. He was awarded the D'Achtall Observatory Prize for the Visual Arts (2013), and in 2007 he created the sculptural group "Oratholos" in Murcia. Armando Montesinos and Francisco Vivó González have dedicated their doctoral theses to him (2000 and 2002), and he is currently represented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the White House Collection in Washington, the CAAM in Las Palmas, the ARTIUM in Vitoria, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, the Dobe (Zurich), Banco de España, Telefónica, La Caixa and Chase Manhattan Bank collections, the Mie Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan and the Wurth Museum in Germany, among others.

ALFONSO ALBACETE (Antequera, Málaga, 1950). "Difficult day", 1986. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and titled on the back.

      Est: €2,500 - €3,000

ALFONSO ALBACETE (Antequera, Málaga, 1950). "Difficult day", 1986. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and titled on the back. Measurements: 150 x 100 cm; 152 x 102 cm (frame). Alfonso Albacete trained with Juan Bonafé in Murcia, where he spent his early years. Later he will continue his pictorial studies at the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, to finally study Architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Madrid, studies that he finished in 1977. During his time in Madrid, he will get to know first hand the work of the great Spanish artists, both classical and contemporary. Three years later, in 1980, he received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture in the category of Plastic Arts. Painter and engraver, he develops a language based on an expressive chromatism, close to American abstraction and even pop art, standing on the border between figuration and abstraction. Since the beginning of the nineties, an iconography begins in his plastic art that will be from then on constant in his production: the human figure, the still life and the landscape. In his first paintings, made in the seventies, he still uses a realistic figurative language, which soon, however, will become increasingly abstract and expressive, relying on a systematic and constructive brushstroke. Albacete held his first individual exhibition in 1972, at the Chys Gallery in Murcia, where he would exhibit again in 1973 and 1976. In 1973 he took part in the Young Art Competition Exhibition at the Juana de Aizpuru Gallery in Seville, and in 1975 he presented himself in Madrid with a personal exhibition held at the Egam Gallery. Also during these years he made the international leap, holding solo exhibitions at the Museum of the Chilean Resistance (1977) and the Salon au Palais de Glace in Paris (1978). Since then he has held solo exhibitions in leading galleries and museums in Spain, in centers such as the MEIAC in Badajoz (2007) or the Marlborough Gallery in Madrid, which currently represents him. He has also shown his work individually in other important Spanish galleries, among them Windsor in Bilbao, Séiquer in Madrid and Miguel Marcos in Barcelona. Likewise, Albacete has taken part in group exhibitions in Spain, Poland, Russia, Monaco and Greece, among other countries in Europe and America, in such prominent places as the Sofia Imber Museum of Modern Art in Caracas (1992) or the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow (2011), and has participated in the Arco and Estampa fairs in Madrid, ArtCologne in Germany and Arte Fiera (Bologna). Likewise, in 1988 the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art dedicated its first retrospective exhibition to him. He was awarded the D'Achtall Observatory Award for Plastic Arts (2013), and in 2007 he made the sculptural ensemble "Oratholos" in Murcia. Armando Montesinos and Francisco Vivó González have dedicated their doctoral theses to him (2000 and 2002), and he is currently represented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the White House Collection in Washington, the CAAM in Las Palmas, the ARTIUM in Vitoria, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, the collections of Dobe (Zurich), Banco de España, Telefónica, La Caixa and Chase Manhattan Bank, the Mie Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan and the Wurth Museum in Germany, among others.

      Est: €3,000 - €3,500

ALFONSO ALBACETE (Antequera, Málaga, 1950). "Lake". Acrylic on silk. This piece belongs to the Kimono Joya collection. Signed in the upper right area. Size: 38 x 39 cm; 53 x 53 cm (frame). This work belongs to the exhibition project entitled "Treasures on silk. Oriental daydreams", created by Fumiko Negishi and Carlos Muñiz. The project not only included an exhibition of 30 Haoris intervened by various artists from the international contemporary art scene, but was also accompanied by a set of 10 Tanka poems by Junko Okawara, objects of Wabi Sabi philosophy and action painting. In the creation of this collection, the inspiration of the exhibition entitled "Kimono Joya, Wabi Sabi the beauty of imperfection" has been fundamental. This exhibition was created on the basis of an artistic project of national and international recognition: Kimono -joya; which after having been exhibited in several cities in Spain and Japan, was presented in the Matadero hall in Madrid in 2023. Each of the artists created their artistic design based on the traditional Japanese garment known as Haori. Each of the works presents a reduced T-shaped format, following the idea of idealising the miniature, a concept that harmonises with oriental philosophy. The material itself transports the viewer to the trade routes between East and West and to the natural exchange that is the basis for the enrichment of a profound knowledge. The Haori, as a cultural identity, has been intervened by each artist in a personal way and serves in this case as a catalyst for this exchange and a canvas for the personal vision of each of the artists who have participated in this project. Alfonso Albacete trained with Juan Bonafé in Murcia, where he spent his early years. He later continued his pictorial studies at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Valencia, and finally studied architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Madrid, where he completed his studies in 1977.
