      South Africa, Africa b.1955 The Mural Painting Under Process, 1992, oil on canvas. Sam Nhlengethwa studied fine art at the Johannesburg Art Foundation under Bill Ainslie (1934-1989) and is one of the co-founders of the Bag Factory. Acommunal studio space which he shared with other noted South African artists including David Koloane (1938-2019) and Pat Mauloa (b.1952). Most recently he was featured in the Beyond Borders: Global Africa group exhibition at the Univesity of Michigan, 2018.

It was also the name of a series of artists’ workshops that Ainslie attended in Zimbabwe in the 1980s.
