Attr. to Wm. Aikman, "Portrait of Sir Andrew Hume"

      Est: $4,000 - $6,000

Attributed to William Aikman (United Kingdom, 1682-1731), "Portrait of Sir Andrew Hume of Kimmerghame", oil on canvas. Formal figural portrait painting depicting Lord Andrew Hume of Kimmerghame wearing a traditional curled white wig of a judge with stern and stoic facial expression. Man depicted at bust length wearing a red ruffled silk and velvet top with green paneling and white neck scarf accent. Faux oval painted medallion surrounding figure. Verso of stretcher with remnant of red wax collector's stamp and with remnant of handwritten label with "Lord Patrick John" and other indistinguishable script text. Apparently unsigned. Framed 39" x 34.5", unframed 30.5" x 24.75". Painting includes documentation for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, dated 1974, confirming that the sitter is Sir Andrew Hume of Kimmerghame and that the artist is likely William Aikman.
