      GEORGES CHARLES AID (1872-1938) Trocadero, Paris 1899 Encre ?? sur papier, monogrammé en bas à gauche, situé et daté 99 à droite, titré et situé au crayon sur le passe partout à gauche, signé avec mention "Impr." à droite. Etiquette de collection au dos. Dimensions à vue : 21,5 x 11,5 cm - Peintre et graveur américain né dans l'Illinois, actif en France et en Caroline du Nord, Georges Aid débute une formation à l'Ecole d'Art de Saint-Louis et y obtient une bourse afin de s'installer à Paris. Il s'inscrit d'abord à l'Académie Julian en fréquentant les ateliers de Jean-Paul Laurens et Benjamin Constant et ensuite à la Grande Chaumière sous la direction de Lucien Simon et Charles Cottet. Influencé par Marc Whistler, il exécute de nombreuses eaux-fortes représentant ses voyages à travers la France mais aussi Paris. Il fréquente à Paris de nombreux artistes américains tels Miller et Frieseke et forme avec eux une petite communauté. Après la Grande Guerre, Georges Aid rentre avec son épouse aux Etats-Unis et s'établissent en Carolin du Nord où ils parviennent à reconstituer une petite communauté d'artiste. En quelques années, il deviendra un artiste reconnu, continuant à graver et peindre des portraits, des paysages et des scènes champêtres.

SS 9 x 5.25 in.; DOA 15.25 x 11.5 in. A noted society portraitist, George Charles Aid began his art studies at the School of Fine Art in St. Louis.
