À VUE: 69 X 89,5 CM (27 3/16 X 35 1/4 IN.) NOTE Né en 1949 à Jbel Lahbib, dans les environs de Tétouan, Ahmed Afailal entame en 1971 des études d’arts plastiques à l’Ecole des beaux-arts dans la Colombe blanche où il obtient, trois ans plus tard, son diplôme. Pour affûter ses talents d’artiste-peintre, il intègre en 1974 l’Ecole des arts appliqués à Séville en Espagne, puis l’Ecole supérieure des beaux-arts San Fernando à Madrid dont il sort en 1979 diplômé. Il exerce depuis comme professeur de l’éducation plastique à Tanger, mais en parallèle il pratique toujours la peinture et la gravure. Il a à son actif un nombre important d’expositions individuelles et collectives dans différentes villes au Maroc et en Espagne. Il est reconnu comme l'un des premiers artistes à avoir intégré la calligraphie arabe dans ses œuvres, afin de «véhiculer les maux qui le tourmentent au quotidien».

He applied the paint in a spontaneous gesture to the image carrier combining it with a scratching technique. The work is signed and dated within the representation lower right 'Ahmed Afailal/92'. It is overall in very good condition with only slight signs of wear such as lightweight traces due to framing. Image dimensions: 81 x 61 cm. Framed dimensions: 90 x 70 cm. The frame shows traces of use. Ahmad Afailal (born 1949) Afailal Ahmad was born in 1940 in Tetouan in Morocco and studied visual arts at the local Academy of Fine Arts. He continued his studies at the Academy of Applied Arts in Seville and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1979, he became a Professor for Visual Arts in Tangier. In fact, his works appear like colorful knots of calligraphic elements, reminiscent of frescoes and graffiti art at the same time. The present work on paper shows a background determined by blue speckles of color. The speckles are covered with Arabic characters as well as with surfaces and lines in different colors, which create a compact form in the center. Is this dynamic composition an expression of Afailal's state of mind, who describes himself as a person being in permanent self-discovery? The sheet is dated '1981-2-5' and signed in Arabic upper left. It is signed again in Arabic as well as signed and dated in script 'Afailal 81' within the depiction lower right. It is mounted under a mat on four edges and framed under glass in a silvered wooden frame, being in very good condition with only minimal traces of use. The overall dimensions, including the frame, are 85.5 x 69 cm. The sheet dimensions are 65 x 40 cm.
