  • American Charles Partridge Adams Original Watercolor Painting
    Dec. 14, 2024

American Charles Partridge Adams Original Watercolor Painting

    Est: $2,000 - $3,000

Very fine original watercolor painting "Long's Peak from the Big Thompson river, Estes Park" by well listed Colorado artist Charles Partridge Adams ( 1858-1942). Framed. Signed. Size: 14 7/8" x 19" framed; Image: 6 3/4" x 10 3/4". Provenance: Private collection, Denver, Colorado. Charles Adams moved to Colorado in 1876 and became captivated by the landscape, finding a uniqueness and “poetry of the West” that he sought to capture on his canvases. Adams was largely self-taught and highly influenced by his studies of the work of George Inness. Painting en plein air throughout the West, Adams developed a style that was impressionistic and focused on the effects of changing light, particularly the fleeting moments just before or after a storm or during a sunset/sunrise. Two hallmarks of Adams style are a mountain peak with a valley view and his distinctive application of paint. The artist often utilized thin layers of paint punctuated by areas of heavy impasto, allowing him to emphasize atmospheric differences and geological formations.
