The plate originates from the National Porcelain Manufactory St. Petersburg. Adamovich designed the plate for the 5th anniversary of the Red Army. The plate reads 'Long live the Red Army 1918-1923'. Depicted is the motif of a Red Army soldier, destroying the insignia of the Tsar Empire as well as the English and Japanese flags. A further interpretation is the one of the Red Army soldier, fighting a snake, influenced by the figure of Saint George as a snake slayer. Such motifs were also easy to grasp by people who were not familiar with contemporary art - in context of the revolutionary events these subjects were of symbolic character. Literature: Comp. Die Große Utopie. Die russische Avantgarde 1915 -1932, exhibition catalogue, Schirn, Kunsthalle Frankfurt, March 1 - May 10, 1992 Comp. Fragile. Die Tafel der Zaren und das Porzellan der Revolutionäre, exhibition catalogue, Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt and Schloss Bad Homburg, April 12 - August 31, 2008, p. 276, cat.-no. 408 Condition: The porcelain plate is in very good condition. It is 24.4 cm in diameter. National Porcelain Manufactory St. Petersburg The National Porcelain Manufactory St. Petersburg was the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory until 1917. In the period of the revolution and subsequently the manufactory produced narrative agitation porcelain for propaganda purposes. Kandinsky and Lissitzky have i.a. created décors for the manufactory in that time. (tm) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
