    Victor Adam, French, 1801 to 1866, collection of four color lithographs depicting bullfighting scenes including The Bull entering the plaza, The Banderillas pinning flags on the Bull, The Matador calling the Bull to kill it, and The moment the Matador kills the Bull. Published by Chez Bulla N.D., Paris. Signed in the print, lower right. Inscribed and marked in the print, lower to the center. Copyright 1957 Sidney Z Lucas, lower right. Matted. Marked, made in U.S.A. Jean Victor Adam was a French painter and lithographer. In 1819 he exhibited Herminia succouring Tancred. He was almost immediately afterwards employed to paint various subjects for the Museum at Versailles. He continued to exhibit until 1838, his subjects including Henry IV., after the Battle of Coutras, Trait of Kindness in the Duke de Berri, The Postillion, The Vivandiere, The Road to Poissy, The Return from the Chase, Horse fair at Caen, and many others. He then disappeared from public view until 1846, when he exhibited some lithographs, dedicating himself to the medium from then on. (Wohl Paris um 1860). -- An eine Dame, die ihn eingeladen hatte. Adam bedankt sich, muß aber leider absagen: "... une fatalité s'est placée entre votre bonne invitation et mon désir ...". Auch im Namen seiner Frau bitte er, die Absage zu entschuldigen. Um seine Situation zu beschreiben, füge er eine Federzeichnung mit einer Selbst-Karikatur bei. Das Bild zeigt den Künstler in zerrissener Kleidung und Holzpantinen, wie er sich weinend die Haare rauft und mit einem Fuß auf seiner Maler-Palette steht, vor der seine zerbrochene Pfeife liegt. Signiert mit "V. A.". - Witziges und seltenes Selbstbildnis.
