Estimado $ 90,000-150,000 ÁNGEL ACOSTA LEÓN (La Habana, Cuba, 1930 - La Habana, Cuba, 1964) Autorretrato Fechado 1959 al frente. Firmado al reverso Óleo sobre cartón Con dedicatoria "A mi amigo Fermin. Porque siempre seamos niños... Cuba" al reverso. Perteneció al movimiento cubano "Nueva figuración" o mejor conocido como vuelta al mundo objetivo. Artistas como Antonia Eiriz, Raúl Martínez, Servando Cabrera y Umberto Peña fueron parte de este grupo, el cual se identificó por llevar a la pintura nuevas concepciones sobre el socialismo que regía Cuba. Ángel Acosta León egresó en Pintura y Escultura en la Academia de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, en La Habana en el año 1957, en 1959 realizó su primera exposición junto con Alfredo Sosabravo en la Galería del Arte y Cinema La Rampa, en La Habana; en ese mismo año participó en una exposición colectiva durante la 5° Bienal de São Paulo, Brasil. Su galardón más importante fue, en 1959, el Premio de Adquisición del Salón Anual de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado, en el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, en La Habana. En 1960 llegó a México durante la II Bienal Interamericana. Fue un artista que expresó el difícil tránsito del capitalismo al socialismo, su precaria vida, en gran parte producto del medio social anterior a 1959. Las obras más antiguas presentadas son sus "Autorretratos" de entre 1954 y 1958, las cuales, en palabras de Bienvenido A. Rodríguez: "Son de gran lastre académico, pero en algunos se vislumbra tímidamente el genio plástico que desarrollará más tarde. En casi todos le concede una importancia grande a los ojos; este elemento aparecerá, solo, en muchos cuadros posteriores". En 1961 algunos hechos históricos de la Revolución Cubana pasaron a su pintura, introduciendo las "naves" y las "estructuras". Posteriormente creó sus series de "Juguetes" y "Colombinas". Though Leon died at the young age of 32, his work has been exhibited in numerous expositions worldwide, including Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris, Chile, Miami, and Sao Paulo.
