    An incredibly rare poster as are all the first release posters for Josef von Sternberg’s classic of Theodore Dreiser’s novel. The poster was previously folded but has been professionally placed on linen and other than a two-inch tear in the upper border into the credits; it is near perfect. We’ve seen only one other copy of this poster come to market in recent years and it was heavily faded. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th.     GÖSTA ÅBERG (1905-1981) DR. CYCLOPS. 1940. 39 1/4x27 inches, 99 3/4x68 1/2 cm. A.-B. Kopia, Stockholm. Condition B+: creases and abrasions along vertical and horizontal folds and in image. A mad scientist in the jungles of Peru shrinks five of his colleagues using the radiation he has been experimenting with. The diminutive group tries to flee through the jungle and then returns to confront the scientist, ultimately breaking one of his glasses lenses (hence the term Cyclops) and then killing him. The film garnered an Academy Award nomination for its special effects and was directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack, the (uncreditted) director of King Kong. This is the Swedish version.
